Thank you for your interest in the ACMG Foundation for Genetic and Genomic Medicine’s (ACMGF) Summer Genetic Scholars program (SGSP). The application cycle for 2024 has concluded. The Foundation is extremely grateful to BioMarin and Ultragenyx whose support has allowed the Foundation to sponsor 12 students with an additional 7 students supported by their host institution participate in the summer of 2024. SGSP was started in 2011 and has sponsored almost 229 scholars at more than 60 different institutions around the country since then. This program has a lasting impact on participants.

Institution Selection

  • Institutions will be selected by the Summer Genetics Scholars Committee.
  • Selection is made based on the applicant institution’s and ability to adequately provide support and resources to a Summer Genetics Scholar.
  • Institutions must apply on an annual basis for consideration for the program.

Qualifications of Student Applicants

In order to apply for the Summer Genetics Scholars program, applicants must:

  • be enrolled in a medical school in the US and in good standing at the time of the application.
  • have completed their first year of medical school.
Applicants who have completed more than the first year of medical school are not eligible to apply for the program.

Student Selection

Institutions selected to serve as a host site are responsible for selecting one Summer Genetics Scholar. Mentors will be required to notify the student and ACMGF staff of the student’s selection. All copies of the application must be sent to the ACMG for record-keeping and reimbursements purposes.
